Superior General of the Society of Jesus Fr. Arturo Sosa, S.J. has officially announced the celebration of the Ignatian year to commemorate 500 years since the conversion of St. Ignatius in 2021 and 400 years since the canonization of St. Ignatius and St. Francis Xavier in 2022.

The Ignatian year will open on May 20, 2021, the anniversary of Ignatius’ injury at Pamplona and conclude on July 31, 2022, the feast of St. Ignatius. The peak of the celebration will fall on March 12, 2022, the fourth centenary of the canonization of St. Ignatius with St Francis Xavier, St. Teresa of Jesus, St. Isidore Labrador, and St. Philip Neri.

The logo presents in Latin the name of the Founder of the Society of Jesus, “Ignatius”. The cross is visible in the center of the word, and it also points to the classic emblem of the Society, “IHS”. The S at the end of the name doubles as the figure 5 at the beginning of the number 500 which connects Ignatius’ old signature with our days by means of a new design. Consequently, combining the epoch of Ignatius’ conversion with the theme of the Ignatian Year celebration: “To see all things new in Christ”.

The theme is an invitation to the whole Society to “‘be renewed’ by the Lord himself” and “an opportunity to know, to love and to follow the Lord of all things,” wrote Fr. Sosa.

Jesuit Mission Cambodia, Jesuit Service Cambodia, and Parishes of the Prefecture together to promote Ignatian Spirituality (I) on a personal and Jesuit community level (II) among lay volunteers and staff (III) our students and youth and (IV) young Church leaders in various ways for which use of movies will be helpful and (v) The Ruom Centre (Centre for factory workers) would do the same for the workers which will include seminars every quarter.
The annual Retreat for Jesuits using the autobiography of St. Ignatius and creating practical guidelines for the UAP in our daily life.
Vocation Promotion with special intention of the Ignatian year.
Publications: (I) Ignatian spirituality in Khmer and (II) updated version of Spiritual Exercises and Autobiography of St. Ignatius through MAGGA Jesuit Research Centre.
A national level Eco-Conference can be planned.
Programs to be worked out for assisting Covid-19 affected communities in their recovery process. This is to commemorate the recovery of St. Ignatius after his injury.

It is my desire that at the heart of this Ignatian year we would hear the Lord calling us, and we would allow him to work our conversion inspired by the personal experience of Ignatius
